BlueUp was born in 2014, from an intuition of the three founding partners (Alessio, Francesco, Samuele), engineers with many years of experience in scientific research and technological innovation, in the sectors of wireless systems, embedded electronics and IT.

The first product is BlueBeacon Mini (the updated version of which is still present in the product catalog), a BLE beacon certified for the iBeacon protocol, launched by Apple in 2013 for proximity and micro-localization applications. BlueUp is the first Italian company and one of the first worldwide to provide a BLE device with iBeacon technology. The first results arrive in 2015: BlueUp beacons are used for the first applications in proximity marketing and indoor navigation; a leading Italian company adopts the Mini beacon for a new model of school backpack; the first customers are acquired on the international market.

With the growing interest and the emergence of new markets for BLE beacon technology (industry, safety, ...), the BlueUp catalog is also expanding with new devices: the first BLE tags for asset location applications and BLE beacons for industrial applications are launched in this period.

At the same time, the expansion of the technological offer also testifies to the growth process: Google certification for full support for Eddystone technology (2016), partnership with Quuppa (AoA technology) and certification of Quuppa Compatible tags (2017), Wirepas partnership (2.4GHz mesh technology) and certification of mesh tags and anchors (2019). BlueUp is the first company in the world that can boast a catalog of devices with support for the main technologies on the market: iBeacon, Eddystone, Quuppa, Wirepas.

2020 is marked by the Covid-19 pandemic. During the lockdown period, with most of the staff working from home, BlueUp develops and patents the Tracer technology, based on the SafeX device, for contact-tracing applications. The solution is quickly adopted by many Italian and foreign companies, from small businesses to large multinationals.

Covid-19 brings out new needs, including the importance of indoor tracking and monitoring of environmental parameters and air quality. The Ultra family of devices is born, with unique features on the market: antenna designed to improve localization accuracy, usable as BLE beacons or as Wirepas anchors, and also available with sensors.

BlueUp expands its offering: the new family of IoT gateways, TinyGateway, is launched, which is characterized by extreme simplicity, high flexibility of configuration and use, and competitive cost. BlueUp is a candidate to be the unique supplier of hardware devices (tags, beacons, sensors, gateways).

With the maturation of the market, and the growth of the network of partners and customers, the need to provide not only hardware devices, but integrated hardware-software products for traceability and monitoring applications emerges: RTLS platforms are developed, and they constitute a proposal capable of satisfying the widest needs of the market.
