Technology
AccuRTLS is an advanced solution for tracking and locating BLE devices, based on Quuppa Intelligent Locating System, a powerful patented AoA (Angle-of-Arrival) technology platform for real-time tracking with sub-meter accuracy.
AccuRTLS uses powerful locators, with planar array antennas, that can calculate the direction of arrival (both elevation and azimuth angle) of the signal broadcasted by BLE devices. With the determined angle of arrival and known exact position of the antennas, the localization system computes the exact location of the BLE devices using advanced triangulation algorithms.
AccuRTLS uses standard BLE advertising packet broadcast; thus, it can be used with Quuppa-compatible tags and sensors, but also with BLE-enabled devices, like smartphones.

Architecture
AccuRTLS architecture is based on three main components: Quuppa-compatible tags, Quuppa locators, AccuRTLS software with Quuppa Positioning Engine (QPE) and APIs.
Quuppa-compatible tags are applied to people/assets to track and move within the localization area, continuously broadcasting a Quuppa-specific BLE advertising packet. Fixed anchors (Quuppa Locators) are installed at precise positions inside the environment where localization is required. Since the location technology uses angle information to estimate tag position, both position (x,y,z coordinates) and orientation of each locator must be known. For maximum radio visibility, locators should be installed on the ceiling (or on poles, for outdoor installation). Density of antennas depends on several factors, including the height of the ceiling and the required accuracy in a certain zone.
Quuppa locators are connected, through a dedicated local LAN (PoE optional) to a local server with AccuRTLS SW. Advanced connectivity options are available (including using PoE cable-concentration units or wireless communications) to reduce cost of wiring. AccuRTLS SW includes Quuppa Positioning Engine (QPE) and HTTP REST APIs in standard JSON format, that allows to get position data in real time.

Components
Tags
Asset and wearable tags are wireless electronic devices that are applied to assets or worn by people to be tracked.
Tags are active devices, equipped with a battery, capable of autonomously transmitting information (unique identifier and status information) to the locators, using Quuppa-specific BLE advertising packets. All Quuppa tags from BlueUp support the entire set of Quuppa functionality, including use of proprietary channels, back-channel communication for configuration and commanding, OTA FW update.
Locators
Fixed Quuppa locators receive BLE packets from the tags. Each locator is capable to compute the direction of arrival of the incident signal form each BLE tag moving in the area. Both elevation and azimuth angles are computed. Thanks to advanced proprietary algorithms, each locator can simultaneously receive hundreds of tag signals (differently from standard BLE 5.1 AoA that is limited in number of tags per locator).
Quuppa locators are available in two versions: one for indoor installations, one for industrial and outdoor installations.
Locators are connected through LAN/WLAN to a local server where the Quuppa Positioning Engine (QPE) is installed.
AccuRTLS SW
AccuRTLS SW suite includes Quuppa Positioning Engine (QPE) and APIS. QPE is the core of the tracking system, and uses signal direction information for triangulation. QPE receives data from the Locators, runs it through advanced positioning algorithms and provides standard JSON/REST – push/pull APIs that enable seamless integration with other systems and softwares.
AccuRTLS also includes functions for remote configuration and commanding of tags and for locator monitoring.
Do you want to integrate sensors?
In the case of sensor integration, locators can also receive data (physical or environmental parameters, such as temperature, humidity, pressure, CO2, …) from BLE sensors, to create a complete IoT platform.
