Technology

MeshCube is a revolutionary location and tracking platform, with unlimited scalability, which requires practically no infrastructure and no cabling. MeshCube uses Wirepas Mesh 2.4GHz technology, that provides a robust, reliable and self-healing wireless connectivity infrastructure. Thanks to its ultra-low-power consumption, MeshCube enables fully battery-operated tracking with years of battery life, making it ideal for retrofit installations. Its cable-less architecture reduces design, installation and wiring costs to almost zero: MeshCube is the tracking platform with the lower total cost of ownership (TCO) on the market.
MeshCube uses a positioning engine specifically designed by BlueUp that, using RSSI values and motion information of the tag, within advanced trilateration algorithms, provides an estimate of the tag position with adequate accuracy for a wide set of use cases.

Battery-powered anchors are installed at fixed positions, possibly on a regular grid. Different types of anchors are available, for ceiling or wall installation, for indoor or outdoor. Anchors self-organize into a mesh network, where just one or a few mesh gateways (sinks of the network) are needed to interface with the local area network or the Internet.
Moving tags periodically scan for nearby anchors and forward this information through the mesh network, to the mesh gateway. Information coming from tags is acquired from the positioning engine (BPE, BlueUp Positioning Engine) embedded into MeshCube software. Software can be installed either on premises or on cloud, depending on project requirements. MeshCube include a web-based user interface for project management and monitoring, and provides open APIs allowing an easy and straightforward integration with end-application.

Tags

Asset tags and wearable tags are wireless electronic devices applied to assets or worn by people to be tracked.
Tags are active devices, equipped with a battery, capable of scanning for nearby anchors and connecting to the mesh network to transmit unique identifier with location data and status information, such as battery level. Multiple functional modes are supported for increasing battery life.

Anchors

Anchors receive signals from the tags and allows the mesh system to have fixed reference points to guarantee localization function and maintain a reliable network infrastructure. A reliable self-healing mesh scheme guarantee connectivity also in case of device failures or external interferences.
Thanks to its ultra-low-power technology, anchors operate for years with battery power. In case of low-latency applications, powered anchors can be used.

Gateway

The gateway is the interface device between the mesh network and the local network (or Internet) where the MeshCube software is installed. It is the only device that requires external power. Different connectivity options are available for gateway: LAN, WLAN, LTE.
Typically, the number of gateways required for a single installation ranges from one to a few units.

MeshCube SW is the core of the system. It integrates BlueUp Positioning Engine (BPE), an advanced location tool based on trilateration and filtering, that allows to compute tag position from data coming from mesh network. MeshCube SW comes with an easy-to-use web-based user interface for project setup and management and offers a wide set of free-to-use APIs for HTTP and MQTT to interface the platform with external application software.
