Technology
Forklift Locator is based on a beacon-based location platform. A mesh network of battery-powered Bluetooth beacons is used by the on-board tracking device to estimate position using advanced filtering schemes and trilateration algorithms. Thanks to the completely cable-free infrastructure, this solution has a total cost of ownership (TCO) that is a fraction of other solutions on the market. Forklift Locator is ideal for real-time location and tracking of forklifts within warehouses. The location data provided by the platform can be used for mission optimization, uptime monitoring, fleet management.
Forklift Locator is a plugin of MeshCube platform; thus, it can be easily integrated with asset tracking function (for carts, containers, …) without any additional hardware, for a complete cable-less localization platform for warehouses.

Architecture

Fixed battery-powered BLE beacons are installed along aisles or in open areas of warehouse, by using racks and walls as physical supports. The beacons support Wirepas mesh technology and connect to each other in a self-organizing mesh network, which allows to manage and monitor the entire infrastructure with one single gateway.
The forklift is equipped with an on-board device consisting of a BLE scanner connected to the WiFi network within the warehouse. Data are processed by the localization engine, which provides real-time position of the individual forklifts. Open APIs allow for an easy and seamless integration with application software or third-party systems.

On-board device
The on-board tracker (installed on the forklift and powered by the forklift main battery) consists of a BLE scanner with a WiFi interface. On-board device continuously scans for BLE signal from fixed mesh beacons and forward data to the software engine, using WLAN connectivity within the warehouse.
Positioning Engine
Positioning Engine is the location software, embedded in Meshcube platform, that processes data from on-board devices and computes forklifts position. Real-time position is provided, with a refresh time down to 1sec. Position data, as well as system status and other operational information, can be acquired via MQTT or HTTP.
